On Sunday, February 21, the Sea Moms association gathered their children together to have them speak on various summer camps that they’ve gone to. They shared their opinions on the camp counselors, the camp itself, or even some of the people who attended the camps. Some of the kids talked about more athletic based camps; like swim, volleyball or soccer, while some of the other kids talked more about academic based camps; like math, STEM, or creative writing. Either way, all of them said that they enjoyed these camps, and would highly recommend them to others if given the opportunity.
Throughout the course of this discussion, we’ve learnt a lot of new things about different kinds of summer camps including what they provide, what they’re about, and their benefits. The first child talked about their experiences in a STEM camp. They said it was very rigorous and purely academic. It was for the ones who had interest in improving their own mathematical and scientific thinking skills. They said that it was for those who were interested in boosting their own STEM skills and excelling in school.
Another child talked about a YMCA outdoor adventure camp. They talked about the benefits of the activities the camp had to offer. This summer camp was recommended to people who seeked fun. To the people who take pleasure in engulfing themselves into the world of nature. They spoke on the friendships they made in the camp and how nice the counselors were to them. They also spoke on the activities that were included; like biking, rock climbing, and much more.
Another kid talked about a camp where they built friendships. It was an overnight camp where they stayed and performed all kinds of different bonding activities. They claimed that the other kids there were very friendly and easy to get along with. It taught them a lot of great social skills that they were able to use moving forward. It helped them make new friends when they went back to school.
Overall, this meeting had taught all of us a lot about different summer camps and their benefits. It gave kids and teens an opportunity to expand their knowledge about the things that they could do over the summer. Have a great summer!
